Natural Jewelry Cleaners
Natural cleaners are an inexpensive and effective way to clean and maintain both new and old jewelry items. The relatively low cost of using these types of cleaners makes them a desirable option as opposed to commercial cleaners. In addition, although not all natural cleaners are safe for the environment, there are many that are also considered environmentally friendly.
Lemon and Salt
Juice from a cut lemon and salt are two ingredients from nature that work together to create a cleaner for bronze jewelry. Mix salt with enough lemon juice to create a thick paste. Apply the mixture over the surface of the jewelry and let it sit for five minutes. Use the cut lemon to buff the surface of the jewelry(BUY IT HERE >>), rinse and pat dry with a lint-free cloth.
Ammonia
Mix a quarter cup of ammonia with warm water to create a natural cleaning solution for jewels such as rubies, sapphires and diamonds. Soak jewelry for 10 to 20 minutes and then scrub it with a soft toothbrush to loosen the debris. Once the items are rinsed and dried, this natural cleaner will restore the sparkle to your diamond jewelry. The ammonia solution also works well for cleaning silver and gold items, such as bracelets, charms and rings. Ammonia should not, however, be used to clean certain types of jewelry such as emeralds and pearls which are delicate and easily damaged by it.
Warm water
Plain water is a basic natural cleaner that used in conjunction with other natural cleaners is the safest way to clean. Soaking jewelry, such as turquoise, in warm water works to soften dirt and debris so that you can remove it with a soft bristled brush, such as a toothbrush, and rinse it away.
Baking Soda
Baking soda is a versatile cleaner that can remove tarnish from silver pandora jewelry. Buff tarnished items using a sponge or cloth dipped into a cleaner made of two tablespoons of water and a quarter cup of baking soda.
Baking Soda and Vinegar
Vinegar is another versatile nature-based cleaner that when paired with baking soda, has the ability to clean and shine. For silver and gold jewelry, pour baking soda over the item that needs cleaning, followed by vinegar. Once the cleaners stop reacting to one another, gently scrub and buff the items. Another cleaning solution comes from combining two tablespoons of baking soda with a half cup vinegar. Use this solution to soak and clean silver jewelry.
